HELLO, I'M SIMON

————————————————————————

OVERVIEW

I'm a contemporary artist creating sought after, thought-provoking, conversation-starting works that are both visually arresting and empowering. My work explores the influences of media, advertising, culture, entertainment and society on our identities and mental well-being. My practice is heavy on research and concept delivering urgent and poignant messages carefully translated to canvass in my unique, original and unmistakable style.

CREDENTIALS

I spent the past 30 years working and training in visual communications. I studied and graduated in Visual Arts.

These days thoguh, I'm fully focussed on my art practice.

MY STORY

After being violently attacked in my early teens by six older boys, for wearing ‘the wrong clothes’, I was left traumatised without any psychological aftercare. My confidence was devastated, replaced by fear, and I emotionally withdrew and dressed plainly to avoid being targeted again. After years of playing it safe, I realised I wasn’t living my life, I was just getting by, too scared to be myself, which, upon this shocking realisation, drove me to break through my fears and step into the person I was always meant to be. In the process, I rediscovered painting as a powerful tool to help me express myself and regain my voice, driven by questions of identity and conformity in modern culture and a need to empower others to regain their sense of self worth and break free from everything that holds them back. Sharing my work is my way to reclaim my visibility and identity, which is why I wanted to share this with you all today.
